Frequently asked questions about the Applications, People and Data/File Storage in Office 365.

Applications

Office 365 is Microsoft’s collection of productivity and collaboration software and online services. It includes Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive storage, Teams, and more. Office 365 also provides a workspace for groups of users to communicate with each other, store group files, share documents with other users and collaborate in real-time.

The following applications are currently available in Office 365:

  • Office 365 ProPlus applications:
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook
    • Windows only: Publisher & Access
    • OneDrive
  • Office 365
    • Word Online, Excel Online, PowerPoint Online, OneNote Online, OneDrive, Forms, Teams, Planner, Sway, & Stream

Additional applications that are included with Office 365 but are not enabled for use:

  • PowerApps, Flow, Outlook Online, SharePoint, & Yammer

The Office 365 suite can be accessed through a web browser and allow users to store documents in the cloud, access files on the go, share documents with other users, and collaborate in real-time.

Internet access is only required for specific features or for web applications. For example, OneNote automatically saves your notes to OneDrive when connected to the internet. However, you can still create notes and add pages offline. Your notes will automatically sync to OneDrive the next time you are connected to the internet.

Other applications like Teams can only be used when connected to the internet.

Office 365 works with screen readers, speech recognition tools, and keyboard shortcuts. When using the Office 365 portal or any of the Office Online applications, you can also use the accessibility features built in to your web browser. Students: Undergrad; Grad; Degree-granting, Continuing Education; Medical; Enrolled as full-time and part-time
Employees: Faculty & Staff; Full-time and part-time; Professor Emeritus

Access to all Office 365 applications and services will be suspended in the following  timeline:

Students 6 months from notice of departure/graduation
Staff/ Faculty Access is suspended immediately upon departure of the university.
POI Access is suspended immediately upon departure of the university.

If you wish to keep any of your files, copy the files to an off-site location prior to your departure date.

Note: service termination timeline is subject to change anytime without notice and delays may occur due to the processing of HR data.

Data/File Storage

All students, staff and faculty receive 1 terabyte of storage for their use.

Microsoft keeps all documents and files in Canadian data centers. More specifically, anything stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, PowerBI, etc. is in Canada.
